HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS. HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT.
I went and saw Dita Von Teese's show last night and it was the most incredible and beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life. If she comes to your town, GO. Don't hesitate because of ticket prices (which are reasonable, in my book), and JUST. FUCKING. GO. It's worth every cent. I might write more about the show itself when I have more time, but really I'm just updating this journal to a) get the old one off my profile and b) tell you a brief synopsis of how I got a print to Dita.
So, I was going to give her this drawing, but I ended up selling the original for the price of a ticket to her show because I would have been too depressed knowing that I'd missed possibly my only chance to see her perform live. I still wanted her to have art from me, but since it was the only drawing of her that I had in my possession I ended up having to make a print of it in lieu of giving her an original of something else (sadly, the bulk of my Dita art is missing, but that's a whole other story for another day). I ended up making a print, which didn't look fantastic because of a wonky printer/ink situation, but it was passable. I stuck it in a folder, wrote a little note, and ended up giving it to someone in her crew after the show, since he said he could hand it to her manager and he'd give it to her. I waited for a while longer after that, saw her come out and immediately get asked for a picture with a couple of (somewhat douchey and creepy) guys, and she hurried off right after that. I saw her pause by the bus and thought about going up and talking to her but I knew that she probably just wanted to leave (and she'd apparently been sick with food poisoning that morning), so I just let her go and went home. When I got back I tweeted her and said, "I hope the print I made found its way to you, and that you liked it." She responded almost immediately and said, "yes, it did, thank you, and all the best with your art career. X"
I AM ON CLOUD FUCKING NINE THOUSAND FOR EVER.
In the note I had explained that, because she's such an inspiration to me and has had such a huge impact on my art, I'm really going to be pushing myself to develop a portfolio and start applying to art schools within the next year. The fact that she saw my art, read the note, and responded with some encouragement is exactly what I fucking needed. I'm so happy right now! I feel like I can do anything! Ha!
